Live From London

It’s raining. A cup of coffee and a muffin cost $6.78. After that I passed on the duty free.

The terminal is, like most international terminals, unnaturally large and covered in duty free empires. The notable difference at Heathrow is that Harrod’s has staked out a nice little kingdom for themselves here.

Airport travel typically makes me nervous and flushed, especially now that I’m traveling with a load of gear and film. I’m quite jealous of all the travelers around me with their one small suitcase and and slightly-filled messenger bags. I have a whole rolling case just for my cameras, and my shoulder bag is stretched to the limit filled with the usual suspects and boxes of film. My shoulders and back ache.

The flight over passed surprisingly quickly and in two hours I should be boarding my flight to Cairo. BA flight 155 is scheduled to land at 12:28 am. From there I’ll be stepping off into something entirely new for me, for this is the furthest east I’ve traveled. Cairo; home to 18 million, will be alive at that hour, and throbbing with life. Months of anticipation coming to a close tonight in the city of a thousand suns.
